A Little More About Me…

I became a copywriter the old fashioned way… spending 10 years in 4 churches and 2 schools preparing for a life of ministry! The necessary pivot into marketing was unexpected to be sure, but one that paid off: thousands of hours of high-stakes research, writing, and interpersonal skills formed me into the perfect freelance copywriter.

Long story short… I kiiiiinda love doing this! I can’t help but be curious about the inner-workings of different industries and target audiences. But my curiosity is satiated, it then becomes a fascinating puzzle: finding the value-packed idea that causes my client’s business to CLICK with their customer.

And that’s my biggest strength: my ability to connect with clients and customers alike. I believe you cannot meet anyone's needs until you not only understand them, but more importantly, they feel understood.

More than just increasing your sales, I want you to breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that your marketing is working, freeing you to focus on other aspects of your business.

Why So Much “Connection”?

Connection is a key pillar of everything I write.

And there is a simple reason for that:

I truly believe real connections are REALLY important.

Sometimes we think “human connection” is dramatic, like locking eyes across a dance floor as that one song plays…

But usually it’s shockingly ordinary. It’s the feeling of both understanding and being understood.

I have found that feeling to be both powerful and fulfilling, even when you least expect it.

I never want any part of my life to neglect that, so even when copywriting, I prioritize connecting people towards mutual understanding.

And “coincidentally” empathetic connection is the missing piece to the majority of sales tactics.

No one adventures alone! I would not be who I am without the loving people around me.

Most notably, Lauren, my beloved bride as of September 2020!

We now dwell in Spokane WA, enjoying walking under pine trees through all four seasons.

Family

Some of the few people in the world that can attest to the fact that I have always enjoyed defeating imaginary enemies… especially with some stick I found in the backyard! Fingers crossed, but hoping to introduce them with a Christmas one-shot this year…

San Diego Community

My current home filled with the most neighborly of neighbors. Here we are enjoying pre-COVID birthday in a most San Diego way: ice cream crawl. More evidence that the photo is a bit dated… approx. 5 newborns babies would be in this photo if taken today!

Adventuring Party

My current campaign: May Pegasa (half-elf paladin), Verkashet (desert elf Monk), Sinead (half-orc druid), Carver (human fighter)… currently chasing “mysterious figures” through city canals. Hoping to make some further connections in a player character driven plot!

What Else Do You Do?

Reading

I like learning… like a lot. And while Youtube and podcasts have been a game changer, but I still have a soft spot for hardcover books. Its the only way to satisfy my ADHD curiosity!

I am usually in the midst of some combination of philosophy, history, cooking, theology, psychology, fantasy, or game theory books.

Hiking

Nature moves at its own pace, standing in opposition to so many of the ways of living I fall into. I spent some time working for churches, and the wilderness was not just my means of recharge, but also reflection and re-centering. The coast of Big Sur, lakes of the Norther Cascades, and peaks of the Rocky Mountains have all provided moments of rest, beauty, and transcendence.

Baseball

I grew up with a vivid imagination, but a lot of my time was more devoted to sports, and that enjoyment doesn’t just go away! Bay Area fan, so go Giants, 49er’s, Sharks, Warriors!

That said, my cousin is trying to get me to do Fantasy Football… and I keep telling him it’s both bad fantasy and bad football.

My Favorite Projects

“Write What You Know”

That’s what a mentor told me over a decade ago.

It sparked a joy for research, learning, and communicating that continues to flourish today.

“Don’t fake it. Don’t half-ass it. Don’t be boring”

Now I use that passion to help business owners that struggle to put their value into words that convert.

Its inherently interesting to discover what makes you special, write in your unique voice,

And help your business THRIVE.
